That's not going to be the title of course, but yes, I am working on a second book in the "Meta" series. I've been getting this question a lot lately, which I think is probably the biggest complement I could possibly be paid. I'll try to answer some of the frequently asked questions about it here:
When is it coming out?
Honestly, I'm not 100% sure, BUT my hope is Spring or Summer of this year.
What is the second book going to be about?
Without giving away too many spoilers about what happens at the end of Meta, the second book will pick up after the events we saw at the end a few months down the line. Connor's back in school as a Junior now, but as you can imagine the world has become a much different place.
Is Sarah/Jim/Derrick/Jeff/Etc. secretly Midnight/Iris/Jones/Etc. ?
Yes. All of the above. In all seriousness, the last thing I'm going to do is spoil my own book, but I will tell you that we're going to learn a lot more about all of these characters (okay, maybe not Jeff) and they're all going to start taking what I hope you'll find to be some very interesting paths. We'll also learn a little bit more about the more mysterious characters from the first book: who they really are and what they want. (Don't expect to learn everything quite yet though, that's part of the fun.)
The first book was too short! Is the second one going to be longer?
Along with questions about sequels, I'm always glad to hear someone say the book was too short as opposed to too long. I think the final word count was around 59,000 words (a "novel" is typically considered to be anything over 50,000). My biggest concern in writing my first book was having it be some long, meandering story that people got bored with and never finished. I'm not sure exactly how long the next book is going to be yet, but based on what I'm working on and have outlined it's looking like it's going to be longer. Don't expect War and Peace, but the next story has a lot of moving parts so there's a lot more to pack in for sure.
Why is Meta exclusive to Amazon now?
Amazon's been by far the number one place people have bought Meta. When I say "by far" I mean literally 98% of Meta sales in January happened through Amazon. That's a lot. Going exclusive to Amazon allows people with Kindle's to now "Borrow" my book for free, which is a fantastic deal because not only does someone get to read it for free, but I actually get paid about the same, or actually a little bit more, than if they had bought it. Win - win all around. The Kindle download is always DRM-free though, so if you have a different eReader you can still download the Kindle version and convert it to the format of your choice. Or if you have a tablet you can download the free Kindle App and read through there.
How can I find out when more Meta stuff is available?
The easiest way is to subscribe to my mailing list. I plan to use it pretty infrequently, but it'll be the first place that I put any announcements out, and I already plan to release the first chapter of the next Meta book exclusively through that list when the book is ready.
Anything else coming?
Audiobook! Finally! The audiobook took way longer than I anticipated but it is finished now and awaiting approval on Audible's end. Barring any unforeseen hitches it should be available on Audible, Amazon and iTunes in the next couple of weeks. If you've already bought the Kindle version I believe you'll be able to grab the audiobook version at a steep discount through Amazon.
So that's my update for right now. Since my last post the number of copies of Meta sold has almost doubled to 20,000 which is absolutely incredible. So thanks again for all of the support and interest. I can't wait to share the next book with all of you.
